Tech-Forward Interpreting: Essential Tools for Freelance and Virtual ASL Interpreters is a hands-on workshop designed to equip interpreters with the digital tools and technical knowledge needed to succeed in today’s evolving work environments. Participants will learn to manage their schedules using Google Calendar, create polished invoices, and build a professional website that acts as a digital resume. The workshop also explores virtual interpreting technology, guiding interpreters through optimizing their VRI setups with proper lighting, cameras, and audio equipment. Ideal for both emerging and experienced interpreters, this session blends technical skill-building with practical application to enhance professional visibility, efficiency, and virtual presence.Professional Development Focus

By the end of this workshop, participants will:Objectives
- Participants will create and share a Google Calendar with at least three scheduled interpreting assignments and customized reminder settings.
- Participants will generate one complete invoice using a provided template, including accurate service details, rate, and payment terms.
- Participants will build a one-page interpreter website (using a platform like Google Sites or Carrd) that includes a bio, contact information, and either a downloadable or embedded resume.
- Participants will complete a VRI tech self-assessment and identify at least two areas of improvement in their virtual setup (e.g., lighting, camera angle, audio).

Marcus Gunter is an experienced instructor, mentor, and certified interpreter with over 15 years in the field. He has studied at American River College, CSU Northridge, and Western Oregon University, providing him with a well-rounded approach to interpreting theory and practice. With additional expertise in education and technology, Marcus combines these fields to enhance interpreting work and shares his passion for lifelong learning with others in the profession.

Our CMP/CEU sponsor, Vancro Integrated Interpreting Services (VIIS), is an approved RID CMP sponsor for Continuing Education Activities. This workshop is offered for 0.5 CEUs in the Professional Studies area at the “Little to No” Content Knowledge level. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance.
